Description
Isabelle’s hands trembled as she crossed the threshold of the Sacred Order of Catholic Sisters. With each step she was surer of the life ahead of her. Already she had committed to a life of poverty, chastity, and obedience, but the reality of it hadn’t set in until now.
The walls of the convent seemed to tower over her and she felt a strange mix of excitement and fear as she walked up the cobbled path. Despite the oppressive nature of the structure Isabelle was struck by its beauty. The ornate carvings and detailed architecture were a stark contrast to the simple clothing that she had been wearing as a postulant.
Isabelle couldn’t help but wonder if her new life would be as beautiful as the convent itself. As she stood beneath the archway she glanced up to the sky searching for a sign. Finding none, she resumed her journey feeling a heavy sense of responsibility as she stepped into her new home.
Inside Isabelle was welcomed by Sister Agnes the elderly nun who had been appointed to be Isabelle’s mentor and guide. After giving Isabelle a gentle hug Sister Agnes offered to show her around the abbey. Isabelle followed her through the corridors amazed by the beauty of the stained glass windows and listening with rapt attention as Sister Agnes told her about the history of the abbey and the order.
At the end of the tour Isabelle was brought to her room, even though it was small and sparsely furnished, it was filled with a comforting warmth. Isabelle was relieved to find that her bed was a comfortable one, with a plush mattress. She couldn’t help but smile when she saw the windowsill, where she could place an old jar of wildflowers that the sisters had given her.
As Sister Agnes left she wished Isabelle well, and Isabelle could tell that the nun was wishing her all the best as she began her journey with the Sacred Order of Catholic Sisters.
