Description
The light of the sun shone down upon the vast expanse of the Heavenly Gates casting its beam upon the warrior angel that stood in stoic vigil. Peter the Venerable, the stalwart guardian of the Pearly Gates stood firm at his post, a massive sword in his hand, shining in the sunlight. With a look of determination and an air of nobility he seemed an unyielding sentry ready to battle any who would dare approach the gates of Paradise and demand entry without the strength of faith.
From his mighty perch upon the parapet, Peter surveyed the glorious landscape before him. Towns and cities of gold and marble shone in the light of the heavens while mighty rivers and seas of crystal flowed in timeless and eternal grace. Mighty mountains of granite, capped with blankets of snow reached up to the heavens their peaks obscured by the clouds that hovered above. This was the land of the Lord and His chosen the Land of the Just and Worthy and it was here that Peter would serve as the sole defender against the forces of evil.
For he was the anointed champion of the Lord, and the wielder of the Sword of Faith. His was the duty to protect the Land of the Just and the Worthy from the forces of darkness to guard the Gates of Heaven and to uphold the Word of the Lord.
Behind him, the Celestial City rose up like the greatest of monuments a beacon to the faithful and a home to the blessed. Here, the righteous and the redeemed would be welcomed into the loving embrace of the Lord and here Peter would stand ever vigilant, ever watchful, for the forces of evil that sought to take away their peace.
Atop the walls that surrounded the City of God a legion of angels patrolled the perimeter, keeping a constant watch on any who approached the City with malice in their hearts. These heavenly sentinels had been charged with the task of guarding the Gates of Heaven and they did so without fail, their swords drawn and their armor shining.
Peter kept his gaze focused straight ahead and even though he was alone in his vigil, he felt a quiet strength and assurance in the presence of the Lord. He knew that his faith in the Lord would sustain him and that through his faith he would be granted the strength to defend the City of God and all who were within it.
And so for untold ages, Peter stood guard at the Gates of Heaven. He was the faithful sentry and with his sword held aloft and his heart full of faith, he was ready to face any and all who dared approach the gates and demand entry without the strength of faith.
