Description
I was tending my flock of sheep as I did every day when I saw one of my sheep walking toward me from down the hill. I thought it strange it was separated from the others but didn’t think much of it until it wandered close. It was a large sheep with a thick fleece but that’s where the sheep ended. As it walked closer and closer I could see it had a head of a wolf and it was baring it’s teeth to me in a fierce snarl. I froze on the spot not knowing what to do. I was both terrified and strangely quizzical. My flock behind me didn’t seem concerned at all with its approach but it was obvious to me that the wolf wanted me to leave. As I backed away further and further the beast stopped its interest in me. The wolf then walked in amongst the sheep and started to walk away further up the hillside, the sheep feel in line behind it and followed until they were out of sight.
I stood dumbfounded by what I had seen and my retelling of the tale to the people of my town brought me nothing but ridicule and laughter. They thought it was some kind of fantastical dream I conjured up to make myself appear more interesting, but I knew what I saw was real. I didn’t know how it happened or why it happened, I just knew it did.
Years passed and every now and then a shepherd would catch a glimpse of the wolf and his sheep but no one who saw them were ever truly believed. It was as if it were a phantom, never truly seen and each person who claimed to have seen it was just seen as a liar or a dreamer. Even I began to question if what I saw was real or if I had just imagined it. Though I knew deep down that what I witnessed was true, I couldn’t help but wonder if the wolf and his sheep were just an imagined figment of my mind.
One day however, I saw the wolf and his sheep for a second time. I was walking through the hills and I saw it, the wolf and his flock of sheep, just as I had seen it before. I was surprised and amazed, a little scared but mostly relieved that I wasn’t just dreaming. I watched as the herd peacefully followed the wolf, not scared of him but rather trusting in him. It was as if he was their leader and they were devoted to him. I couldn’t help but be in awe of this strange sight and I couldn’t help but feel humbled by it.
